10 Uganda Birding Safari

Day 1, Arrival and birding in Entebbe
On arrival at the Airport, you will be welcomed by our company representative. Depending on the time of your arrival, Early arrivals will enable you visit some places in Entebbe like Botanical gardens for birding where you will be able to see bird species like the orange tufted, red chested Sunbirds, orange weaver, slender-billed, Northern Brown –throated, yellow backed, Jackson’s Golden –backed, Black-headed, Vieillot’s black weavers, you may also spot the long tailed Cormorant, Common Squacco and black-headed herons, hamerkop, African Open-billed Stork, yellow billed duck, Grey headed gull, various terns, giant and pied Kingfishers and swamp Flycatcher on the lake Victoria shores. Day 2, Kampala City tour and Jinja Tour
This day you will be picked up from your Hotel in Kampala and then go for a city tour around Kampala. You will visit cultural sites like the King’s Palace, Kasubi tombs, religious sites like the Namugongo Martyrs’ shrine, Bahai Temple which is the only one of its kind in Africa and it’s used for meditation, Namugongo and Rubaga Cathedrals. Other places to visit include: Uganda Museum known to be the oldest in East Africa, the man made Kabaka’s lake and Makerere University which is the oldest institution in Africa. Day 3, drive to Masindi
After a morning breakfast, you will transfer to Budongo Forest in Masindi. Upon reaching Masindi Town, you will have Lunch at the Hotel. After Lunch, you will take a guided nature walk in the Nyabyeya region and it’s the best place to do a guided bird walk along the Royal mile which runs between Nyabyeya Forestry College and the research station. Dinner and overnight at Masindi Hotel / Nyabyeya Forestry College Guest House

 Day 4, full day birding in Budongo
After your breakfast you will set off for a whole day birding experience in Budongo Forest within the Royal mile area. Do not forget to take with you your packed lunch and mineral water. The forest has a lot of bird species which can only be found here and nowhere else in East Africa. Look out for birds like the Guinea-Congo forest Biome and Yellow-footed Flycatcher, Ceratogymna fistulator, Smithornis rufolateralis, Ixonotus guttatus, Neafrapus cassini, Sylvietta denti, Batis ituriensis and Zoothers camaronensis, Pitta reichenowi and Parmoptila woodhousei, the Blue-breasted, sunbirds and so many others. Dinner and overnight at Masindi Hotel / Nyabyeya Forestry College Guest House

Day 5, Transfer to Kibale National Park
After a morning breakfast, you will drive to Fort portal town with lunch en route in Hoima. The journey will reward you with spectacular views of the magnificent scenery as you drive through the traditional homesteads and farms on your way to Kibale. Reach Fort Portal in the evening and then proceed to Kibale Forest National Park. Dinner overnight at Primates lodge (Luxury)/ Chimp’s nest (Midrange)/Chimpanzee Guest house (Budget).

 Day 6, Chimp tracking and Bigodi Swamp walk for birding
Upon having breakfast in the morning at your lodge, you will go for the life time Chimpanzee tracking experience in their natural environment and habitat. You will first report to the Park Headquarters at Kanyachu for a briefing about the chimp trackers code of conduct by a UWA official and then later go for the morning chimpanzee tracking experience. You will penetrate into the forest under the guidance of an armed ranger for the tracking.  Besides the chimps, you may spot other primates and these include: Varvet Monkey, L’hoest, Blue Monkey, Red-Tailed Monkey, Grey Cheeked Mangabey, Black And White Colobus Monkey and many more. Return back to the lodge for Lunch and later go for the afternoon Bigodi swamp walk to search for different bird species like the Masked Apalis, white headed wood hoopoe and many more. Dinner and overnight at Primates lodge (Luxury)/ Chimp’s nest (Midrange)/Chimpanzee Guest house (Budget).

Day 7, Transfer to Queen Elizabeth National Park
After breakfast, you will leave Kibale Forest National Park and transfer to Queen Elizabeth National Park which is the most popular protected area with a stunning location on the rift valley floor between Lakes Edward and George. En route to the Park you will enjoy a game drive that will expose you to different wildlife species such as Elephants, Buffalos, Uganda Kob and if you are lucky, you may also spot the Hyena, Lions, Leopard and perhaps the Giant Forest Hog. Dinner and overnight stay at Mweya safari lodge or Jacana Safari Lodge (Luxury)/Hippo Hills camp or Queen Elizabeth Bush Lodge (mid range)/ Simba safari lodge (Budget)

Day 8, Game drive and afternoon Launch cruise
After your breakfast, you will go for the morning game drive in Kasenyi area to search for different wildlife animals missed out in the previous game drive. Later visit the Katwe explosion craters. Here you will spot Kitagata Lake and the enormous Kamengo Crater and this will give you clear view of different wildlife around the Park and a lot of bird species like the African Skimmer, Striated Heron, African Spoonbill, Water Thick-knee, Three-banded Plover, Marsh, Green, Wood and Common Sandpiper, Gray-headed Gull, Plain Martin, Lesser Swamp-Warbler and Yellow-billed Oxpecker and many others. In the afternoon, go for the launch cruise along the Kazinga Channel where you will be rewarded with wildlife sights of species like the Hippopotamuses, Waterbucks, Crocodiles and a variety of Water Birds like the black bee- eater, Pink Pelican, King fisher and several species of falcons and the raptors. Dinner and overnight stay at Mweya safari lodge or Jacana Safari Lodge (Luxury)/Hippo Hills camp or Queen Elizabeth Bush Lodge (mid range)/ Simba safari lodge (Budget)

Day 9, Transfer back to Kampala
After breakfast, you will transfer back to Kampala with en route stopover in Mbarara town for Lunch. Reach Kampala in the evening and you will be dropped at your Hotel for dinner and overnight stay at Serena Hotel or Sheraton Hotel (Luxury)/ Cassia Lodge (Midrange)/Excellent Hotel or Ministers Village Hotel or Hotel Sojovaro (Budget)

Day 10, Departure
After breakfast, will go for final shopping in Kampala area or Entebbe provided time is allowing. Depending on your departure flight time, you will be transferred to Entebbe International Airport to catch your flight back home.
